The Oregon football brand has really made a name for itself in the last 20 years. They have won 10 bowl games and had 2 national championship game appearances but lost them both in the last 20 years. The Duck’s have become one of those top tier teams that is talked about almost every of being a contender for the national championship. There first every national championship appearance was in the 2010-2011 season when they lost to Auburn 22-19. The coach for Oregon that year was Chip Kelly, who is currently the coach at UCLA. Chip Kelly was one of the most successful and best coaches to ever coach at Oregon. He was true main reason Oregon’s name got out there. They were one of the most exciting teams to watch when Kelly coached at Oregon.

They have also been producing some elite players as of recent too. Many say that the best athlete to ever play for the Oregon football team is Marcus Mariota. He was the starting quarterback for all three years of his college career, and put up some phenomenal and record breaking stats at Oregon. He was the only Oregon player to ever win the Heisman Trophy in 2014. He was one of two quarterbacks to ever play in a national championship game, in which the team also lost in the 2014-2015 season against Ohio State. That is just one name of many great athletes to play at the University of Oregon.

Due to Oregon being a small populated state, they don’t typically produce elite high school talent. Oregon struggled to recruit players outside the state of Oregon for the longest time, but recently has found its grove in the recruiting process. They are now recruiting at the levels of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State. This coming season, they had the sixth best recruiting class in the country, grabbing the top overall player in the country coming out of California.

Currently the Duck’s have put themselves at a position to be very successful this year and many years to come under coach Cristobal. As mentioned earlier, they are bringing in the sixth best recruiting class in 2019 to boost an already veteran team. They are also bringing back one of the top college football players this year in quarterback Justin Herbert. They are poised to have another successful season this year, and hopefully win their first ever national championship that has been long overdue.
