The University of Oregon is known to have one of the most famous mascots in all of college, which is the Duck. They weren’t always known as the Ducks though. When the program first started up back in 1894, they were called the Webfoots. The first ever coach for Oregon was Cal Young, and he decided to part ways with the team after just one game. After that point, coaching changes became a frequent thing for the Oregon football program. During the early-to-mid 1900s, the Webfoots struggled to be a successful program. The team started off playing well in the early 1900s, but between 1925-1960 the program struggled to compete against top competition. This could have been very possible due to coaches constantly leaving that players struggled to build a bond with the coaches. Oregon only made a handful of bowl games during that period which is considered very little. Around the mid 1960s, the University of Oregon changed its name from the Webfoots to the Ducks. From that moment they began to get better and more competitive as the years went by in mid-to-late 1900s. The Ducks were still searching for their first national championship, in which they failed to accomplish in its early years as a team.
